Biography

Former Shanghai Qi Zhi Institute PI, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

In 1987, Peng Li graduated from Beijing Normal University; in 1988, she received the China-U.S. Biochemistry Examination and Application (CUSBEA) scholarship to study in the United States; in 1995, she obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, and then conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology at the National University of Singapore, the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, USA, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute; in 1997, she was appointed as the head of the research department and assistant professor at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Singapore; in 2003, she became the head of the research department and assistant professor in the Department of Biology at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; in 2006, she returned to China to take up a full-time position as a professor in the Department of Biological Science and Technology at Tsinghua University; from 2009, she served as the vice dean of the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University; in 2012, she received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award; in December 2015, she was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; in November 2016, she was elected as a fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS); in 2017, she received the second Ye Jianying Award.

Research Direction

It mainly studies the molecular mechanism of lipid metabolism regulation, the formation, fusion, dynamic changes of lipid droplets and their interaction with endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria and other organelles, as well as the occurrence and development mechanism of metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and fatty liver.
