Yang Yu graduated from Stanford University in June 2016 with a Ph.D. His research interests focus on the intersection of computational science and governance, including the design of computational technologies for governance and the regulation of the algorithmic service industry. He also studies the organizational issues of the energy industry during energy transition. In May 2015, he won the Best Student Paper Award at the International Association for Energy Economics Annual Meeting for his paper "The Impact of Wind Power on Financial Transmission Rights Markets." In October 2015, he received the Dennis J. O'Brien Best Student Paper Award, jointly presented by the U.S. Association for Energy Economics and the International Association for Energy Economics, for his paper "The Costs, Competitors, and Market Power of Wind Power." In July 2016, he won the Best Paper Award at the U.S.-China Green Energy Summit for his paper "Does Wind Power Priority Cause Additional Emissions?" In August 2020, he received the Best Paper Award in the IEEE PES Big Data area for his paper "Attack Algorithm for Price Manipulation."
