Summer Practice | Tsinghua Yao Ban visited our Insitute and started the journey of advanced AI exploration.


On July 28th, undergraduates from the Institute of Interdisciplinary Information of Tsinghua University came to Shanghai to carry out summer practice activities. Many young scientists and students in our college have exchanged and discussed in the frontier directions of artificial intelligence, cross intelligence, modern cryptography, quantum computing, cloud database, computer graphics and so on. Through visiting and studying in the research institute and interacting with PI teachers, students have a clearer understanding of the frontier development of computer science and interdisciplinary fields, and also found their own interesting research direction in practice.


Activity Process


In the morning, Yao Ban's students came to our Institue to watch the video of the achievements of Shanghai Qi Zhi Institute and learn about the respective research directions of young scientists. Then I visited the laboratory on the spot, and in close contact, I had a more intuitive and practical feeling about the application of artificial intelligence and cross-technology.

Jiang Jianjuan, a teacher from Qi Zhi Institute, extended a warm welcome to the students from Yao Ban, introduced the orientation and development vision of our college, briefly introduced the different research fields of young scientists in our college, and finally invited four teachers, Yu Yu, Li Xiaopeng, Zhang Huanchen and Du Tao, to share their research interests with you and answer the questions raised by the students.

Teacher Yu Yu's research direction is the basic theory of cryptography and post-quantum cryptography. He introduced the cryptography algorithm and the theory of proof reduction, as well as the frontier issues of cryptography such as homomorphic encryption and indistinguishable confusion.

Teacher Li Xiaopeng mainly studies cold atomic physics, quantum algorithm, quantum machine learning, quantum multi-body physics and other directions. He and his classmates discussed the application of quantum computing in computational science, including accelerating non-perturbation calculation in high-energy physics and calculation of binding energy in quantum chemistry. The computational complexity in quantum multibody physics is discussed, and the difficulties in finding high-temperature superconductors and the difficulties and opportunities faced by theoretical calculation-aided material design are discussed.

Teacher Zhang Huanchen's research interests include database management, index data structure, data compression, etc. He discussed the foundation and necessity of database research in the AI era with his classmates, introduced the research of the most advanced cloud native database to his classmates, and answered some questions about the difference between cloud native database and traditional database architecture.

Mr. Du Tao's research direction is computer graphics. He popularized the background and frontier of classical research directions in computer graphics, such as rendering, geometry and simulation, introduced the characteristics of graphics' integration of computing background and artistic aesthetics, and explained the similarities and differences between graphics and simulation research in computational physics. In the subsequent Q&A session, students exchanged views with Mr. Du on the combination of artificial intelligence with rendering and simulation.

The summer practice ended successfully with the active participation of students, thanks to the selfless sharing of scientists. We believe that students will take this practice as an opportunity to continue to study hard, expand their knowledge fields and pursue higher academic achievements. At the same time, I also hope that students can persist in research and innovation, constantly explore cutting-edge science and technology, and contribute to promoting scientific and technological progress and social development. I believe that in the near future, we will meet again, witness the rapid development of science and technology and work hard together to create a better future.
