On July 14, 2024, the opening ceremony and the award ceremony of the 2024 International Congress of Basic Science were held at Tsinghua University, where the Basic Science Lifetime Award for the year 2024 was presented during the opening ceremony. Andrew Wiles, Richard Hamilton, Edward Witten, Alexei Kitaev, Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, and Leslie Valiant, six distinguished contemporary scientists, were honored with this prestigious award.
Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Dean of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences at Tsinghua University and the Shanghai Qi Zhi Institute, attended the opening ceremony and delivered the award acceptance speech.
